Once fully complete, the World Treaty Index will feature every known international agreement in the 20th Century. This includes tens of thousands agreements entered into by hundreds of countries and international organizations. We offer a variety of methods to access the underlying data. Currently, this website only contains treaties signed between 1945 and 1999. Remaining treaties are being added according to the following timeline:

Access to the full dataset

Those interested in obtaining the full dataset can download it in Excel and transfer it to their preferred software package (SPSS, Stata, R,).

Flexible Search

The Flexible Search interface allows an end user to filter the full dataset into their desired subset. To do so, follow three simple steps:

  1. Add one or more of the fields
  2. Choose a field value
  3. Click the Search Button
Examples:
Obtain all agreements between the Belgium and the Netherlands
  1. Select Country/Organization
  2. Choose field value = Belgium
  3. Select Country/Organization
  4. Choose field value = Netherlands
  5. Click the Search Button
Obtain all international extradition agreements
  1. Select Topic
  2. Choose field value = 9XTRAD
  3. Click the Search Button

Search by Exact Citation

Citation:

It is possible to query the database for a specific treaty using the Volume Source and Page.

Enter 6 UNTS 45 in the citation box and click search. This will direct the end user to a 1946 Financial and Economic agreement between Greece and the United Kingdom.

WTI Citation

Each document within the WTI has a unique identification number. It is possible to search of for that document using its WTI number.

Enter 100067 in the WTI Citation box and click search. This will direct the end user to a 1946 Financial and Economic agreement between Greece and the United Kingdom.
